The forte of Sweeping Violence to win the Juvenile Breeder’s Cup

Forte | Sarah Andrews

All the pre-race hype revolved around intern Bob Baffert Stone cave (Arrogate), however, it was Forte (c, 2, Violence–Queen Caroline, by Blame) who lived up to his name, surpassing a pair of Baffert runners to become the Kentucky Derby favorite with victory in the GI FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Keeneland Friday. Favorite 2-5 Cave Rock took the lead early, grappling with 70-1 long shot Typhoon J (Nyquist) came in second as Forte took on a slightly wide stalking position. As the pacesetter made its way through the early splits, the GI Hopeful and GI Breeders’ Futurity winners continued to pass their time behind. Noticeably increasing the tempo while sweeping around the home leg, practitioner Todd Pletcher passed Cave Rock mid-court and made a clear break, crossing two-length rope ahead. Fellow Baffert Trainee National Treasure (Quality Sugar) round the triangle. The final time for the 1/16-mile test was 1:43.06. Lifetime record: 5-4-0-0, $1,755,150.
