There are some stories that, when they end, feel a little off. Something might be missing or left out. Luckily, like everything else about Ryoko Kui’s manga, Delicious in the dungeonThe finale wraps things up in a special way and gives a perfect ending to every character we’ve come to know and love. It illustrates how much everyone really cares about each other and what they’ll take away from this experience as they decide what they like after the events of episode 14.
Editor’s Note: There will be spoilers for all events leading up to episode 14 of Delicious in the dungeon manga and the original premise of the final chapters, but the ending of the final volume will not be spoiled.
While the introduction to episode 14 is natural Delicious in the dungeon Dealing with the aftermath of Laios dealing with the Winged Lion, the rest of the manga’s final entry deals with coming to terms with things and coming to terms with what comes next. After all, there are people on the ground in Golden Country now who normally wouldn’t survive outside the labyrinth. Sissel and Captain Mithrun are the worst cases, but everyone is dealing with the aftermath of the desires the demon took away. The areas are re-animated. Falon is frozen and a chimera. The original Laios also went missing after a terrible massacre.
As people begin to reunite, we will see what makes Delicious in the dungeon as a special series. That is, we get to see the bond and care the characters have for each other and the cooking of monsters. Laios’s thinking suggests that if her red dragon side is removed, through eating and grinding her bones into the ground, then the mages can revive what’s left of her and restore her to normal. Initially, this confuses many around them. (Shuro’s reaction is hilarious.) However, seeing everyone come together, out of love for Laios, Marcille, Chilchuck, the Senshi, Izutsumi, and Falin, is the most heartwarming thing.
As this is going on, Kui makes a very smart decision. Instead of just explaining what everyone is considering doing now that the adventure part of Delicious in the dungeon After that, Izutsumi becomes the main character for a while. She doesn’t know what she wants to do next. So she checks in with everyone she knows and has adventured with. In doing so, we get to see the aftermath of the events in the story, as well as some wholesome moments involving the characters they love. We realize that they’re still themselves, through and through, even with all the character development. It shapes their future. There’s a great running joke regarding how the red dragon parts are being made at this point, allowing us to still enjoy the cooking elements of the series that made it special.
But it also leads to some profound moments that tie into the story so far. Now that those other desires are gone, what comes next? What passions do people want to pursue? Who do you want to be? What do you want most? When we understand that about the characters and see what’s next for them through Kui’s story, it can make readers ask themselves questions about themselves. Delicious in the dungeon The manga ran for nearly a decade in Japan, with the final volume coming out in 2023. That’s a huge chunk of our lives. As we watch Laios, Marcille, Chilchuck, the Senshi, and Izutsumi decide what they need, want, or must do, it’s only natural to think about our own goals and next steps as well.
So when we get to the absolute final chapter of Delicious in the dungeon manga, everything else in volume 14 gave us answers about what’s next for our beloved characters, what their futures might hold, and hints about how things turned out for them. It was a warm and comforting way. We got everything we needed and left satisfied, with our hearts completely full.
