The discontinued Jeep Compass Sport MT petrol version, currently only available with AT

Jeep India has quietly stopped offering the Sport manual variant on the Compass SUV, dealers told HT Auto. The midsize premium SUV is currently only available with an automatic transmission on the base Sport petrol version, while a manual-diesel engine combination will also be available. While Jeep didn’t explicitly mention why it’s discontinued the manual option, it’s likely that low demand has driven the move.

Compass was updated in early 2021 with an upgrade that brings notable upgrades to the product.

The $The more than VND20 trillion auto segment is dominated by automatic transmissions and it is not surprising that buyers would rather spend another trillion VND to get a convenient automatic transmission variant than opt for a manual version. Most gas buyers also tend to use their cars in the city more often, which makes automatics a more affordable choice in traffic conditions.

The base Compass Sport misses out on the 10.1-inch digital dashboard and larger infotainment system
The gasoline-powered Jeep Compass is equipped with a 1.4-liter MultiAir turbocharged petrol engine tuned for 160 hp and 250 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed DDCT automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels. The diesel version uses a 2.0-liter MultiJet oil-burning engine with a capacity of 167 hp and a maximum torque of 350 Nm, combined with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 9-speed torque converter.
In terms of features, the Compass Sport is quite well-equipped and has an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There’s also keyless entry, climate control, LED headlights and more. Top variants get 10.1-inch digital instrument panel, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, etc.

Jeep Compass takes on the role Hyundai Tucson and Volkswagen Tiguan In the segment, both come with a petrol engine option. There’s also the Citroen C5 Aircross with a diesel powertrain only. Diesel engines continue to be in high demand in the premium midsize SUV segment. Compass is available with year-end benefits of up to $1,50 thousand. The automaker has announced that it will raise prices on all SUV models from January 2023.
