The boxing world reacts to Conor Benn’s interview with Piers Morgan

Conor Benn sat down with Piers Morgan in his first TV interview since the news about two failed doping tests for the banned substance, Clomiphene – and the general consensus in the boxing world that he shouldn’t have done that.

The 26-year-old, who has been trying to clear his identity since October 2022, joined the controversial TV presenter to discuss the ongoing story in it. he plans to sue the British Boxing Control Board and claim that the drug was never in his system although two separate tests several months apart say otherwise.

Fan opinions are generally negative for broadcast segmentand many voices from the boxing world agreed…

Johnny Nelson

“Conor is now in a position where he has failed not one but two drug tests. So you can just go with reality, and that’s what it’s all about.”

“I will not do that [the interview]. Unless you have something important to say, I wouldn’t do it. Because it borders Prince Andrew again. It is just difficult. It was a difficult situation.”

“Everyone and anyone watching that is hoping Conor Benn can actually say ‘yes, this is the truth’ – no one was wiser after that interview, and that alone, because because he kept giving direct answers… if you already have some way to prove your innocence, why don’t you?”

Dave Allen

“He failed two tests, didn’t he? That’s it. I don’t have Twitter anymore, I don’t read boxing stuff, but I see two failed tests. I saw WBC put him back on their rankings. Until I see the British Boxing Regulator say he is fully licensed back in the UK, until I see UKAD or VADA say he is innocent, all I see is two tests failed.

“If they come out and say he’s innocent, I’ll raise my hand to apologize… What I don’t like is to come out and attack people by saying ‘you don’t believe me’ and all this and ‘ I’m innocent, you all should believe me’ – why should we? You failed two tests. If I fail two tests, I will be banned for four years and no one will hear from me again.”

“It seemed to me that Conor had just dug himself into a bigger hole. And I really questioned myself and thought hard about why you’re putting yourself in that position, because all you’re doing there is putting yourself back on the line.”

“There are a lot of good signs going with him. ‘I [26], why do I have to do this, my family, my honor’ – it really has nothing to do with whether you are on drugs or not. And Piers kept telling him ‘you’ve got the truth, just present the truth’… You’ve been rambling about the record of evidence that can erase your name but you really want to give it to someone who can. do something about it.”
