The Block 2022: Elle and Joel drop out because show isn’t ‘branded’

Block host Scott Cam has criticized contestants Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull for their ‘bad’ excuses for dropping out of the new season.

The couple’s time on the show ended before it really started, after they ditched their towels for ‘family reasons’ after just 48 hours on the construction site in the country of Victoria.

As TV Week reported, Scott told other contestants Elle and Joel had left because the show wasn’t ‘branded’ to them as influencers in Sydney.

He also said that they complained ‘toilet paper is too scratchy’.

Elle, 36, a famous fashion influencer, and Joel, 37, a retired AFL player, protested the account and insisted they quit because of a legitimate family emergency family.

The pair of tools failed in April – just two days of filming and after the first challenge – after Joel’s mother Trish fractured her neck in a fall at her home in Adelaide.

They initially tried to stay on the show but left after they ‘wasn’t able to get a definitive answer’ from the producers about whether Joel could ‘come and go’ from the construction site in Gisborne to visit his ailing mother in South Australia or not.

Elle later posted a cryptic message on Instagram: ‘Wherever you are in the world. Whatever you’re doing. Family is always first. ‘

Scott was unconvinced by this explanation, however, telling TV Week that he hadn’t heard anything about Joel’s mother before the pair’s sudden departure.

“Of course, family comes first in The Block – we had previously stopped production when people had a family emergency,” he said.

‘And of course, I didn’t mention someone would visit their sick mother… That’s because they didn’t give us a reason.’

Scott previously said at the Logie Awards that Elle and Joel quitting the competition so early was ‘unfashionable’ and ‘incompetent’.

He told TV Tonight: ‘We had a 48-hour challenge to pick the homes you get and they were scarce after 48 hours. That is something that has never happened before. ‘

‘Forty-five thousand people have signed up to join The Block and win a life-changing amount. These guys moved on and they just couldn’t handle the pace after 48 hours,’ he continued.

‘That for me is a bit non-Australian! Have a go! It is pitiful. ‘

The pair made the difficult decision to leave the Channel Nine rehab show in April, after Joel’s mother suffered a bad fall.

The mother of the former long-legged star is said to have suffered a broken coccyx and broken wrist.

A Nine spokesman confirmed their departure to Daily Mail Australia, saying: ‘Over the weekend we were surprised when one of our new contestant teams left The Block for a few days to shoot. movies for the upcoming season.

‘We wish them all the best for the future and we are delighted to invite two new Australians for the opportunity of a lifetime on The Block. Block Tree Change will air as scheduled later this year. ‘
