Ford Fiesta ST (Mk6) – Hot used Hatchback model of the year

  • Our pick: ST-3 3dr (2015/65, 49k miles, £9,999)

A decade since its debut, Fiesta ST still as bright as ever. Not only does it serve up a thrilling mix of speed and agility, but it’s also cost-effective to run and easy to live with the more mundane versions of Blue Oval’s offspring.

When it was revealed in 2012, Ford engineers declared the ST the most exciting car they’ve worked on since the legendary Escort RS Cosworth, and it’s not hard to see why. Its 179bhp engine can develop up to 197bhp at speed, sprinting from 0-62mph in 6.9sec, while engaging and adjustable handling encourages you to look for those winding road. There are hot shops that cost a lot more, struggling to match the Fiesta in terms of speed and poise.

Like all fast Fords, Fiesta Its looks, purposeful bodykit, rear spoiler and lowered ride height give it an aggressive stance. Inside, the snug Recaro seats, metal pedals and red stitching add to the pocket rocket’s appeal. However, as with the standard car, the cabin is practical and surprisingly solid, while the ST-2 and ST-3 versions receive a multitude of standard sets. And while the infotainment is outdated by today’s standards, you can still easily connect your phone to make calls and stream music.

As with all of the best hot stores, ST does not cost Earth to buy and operate. Just £4,500 will guarantee an example of high mileage, while you can spend up to £18,000 on the limited run, 197bhp ST200. All versions can manage over 45mpg if you take it easy, tires and brakes aside, which won’t cost much more to maintain than the 1.0-litre EcoBoost Zetec. Provided it’s taken care of, the Fiesta should also be durable and reliable. Many examples have been hard-drive though, so you’ll need to be mindful of accidental damage. In addition, any performance upgrades that have not been performed by (mostly) factory-approved Mountune companies will be questioned.

In addition to those notes, Ford Fiesta ST is a used hot hatch without pegs.
