The $250m anti-hero who Warner Bros is battling to save: Inside the world of ‘groomer’ Ezra Miller

Ezra Miller, the troubled star of Warner Bros’ upcoming $250m superhero flick The Flash, ran a secret harem out of his Vermont ranch, a recent exposé on the actor’s 2022 arrests has shown – a de facto convent where the star asserted himself as a Jesus figure over an assortment of women.

The chilling account, provided by several unidentified sources who have been acquainted with the the ‘Fantastic Beasts‘ star over the past two years, tells a tale of the actor’s supposed downward spiral after finding fame in Hollywood. 

That spiral culminated in March with a pair of arrests that put his upcoming role in the DC comics flick – set to be his biggest part yet – in jeopardy, despite Disney brass’ assertions the film will be released as planned next June.

Those cited in the lengthy article, published Sunday by Vanity Fair, described Miller’s sprawling Vermont farm as den filled with drugs, guns, and bullets – and a never-ending assortment of Flash figurines, in commemoration of the actor’s preeminent part.

The portrait of Miller’s cult of personality painted by the insiders – who all at one point bore witness to Miller’s devolving behavior – does not end there, however.

In an assortment of interviews, witnesses recounted how the actor – who is nonbinary and uses they and them pronouns – verbally and emotionally abused those around them, and would alternately refer to themself as both Jesus and the devil.

Sources further recalled seeing children at the property, christened ‘the Mountain’ by Miller and other inhabitants, despite an astounding arsenal of guns and ammo – and goats – that littered the premises.

The property is surrounded by dense woods and used to be an alpaca and llama farm, and has served as Miller’s home since 2017.

The claims concerning Miller’s life on the farm comes after they announced they are seeking treatment for ‘complex mental health issues’ following a string of arrests and accusations of abuse, assault, and the alleged grooming of a 12-year-old girl- potentially throwing a wrench into the planned released of the pricey blockbuster.

Speaking to Variety, the sources accused Miller of controlling a ‘court harem’ of mostly young women at the farm, where the star allegedly played ‘them against each other,’ screaming and belittling them in front of the others.

All the while, goats would roam the premises – an allegedly squalid den of debauchery where the actor’s friends would crash and smoke marijuana, play video games, and share resources like cash and plane tickets in some sort of pseudo-collective.

That said, staying at Miller’s meant abiding by the actor’s rules, the sources claimed – meaning 

People cited in the article described bizarre rituals Miller would force his ‘tenants’ to attend – all while touting themselves as a real-life superhero, akin to the fictional Flash.

The property even supposedly had an altar dedicated to the superhero, where Miller and his de facto minions would host sermons and burn sage.

Atop the altar, two sources who visited the property earlier this year said, was a shrine of bullets, weed, sage, and Flash figurines. 

One longtime friend of the actor claimed at these meetings, Miller would often demand ‘the women put their cell phones on the altar when they come in,’ as well as other offerings, forcing them into subservience as if the group were a cult.

The source described the dynamic as a ‘patriarchal dictatorship.’

Lectures that Miller’s companions were forced to sit through, insiders further claimed, grew increasingly metaphysical, with the actor at one point ‘claiming that the Flash is the one who brings the multiverses together – just like Jesus.’

An insider claimed how Miller entangled the superhero into their grandiose speechifying – while also detailing the actor’s debaucherous and hard-partying behavior, which would eventually descend into borderline madness and this year’s arrests.

‘He’d talk about the metaverse and the medicine and how they’re the Messiah and what his work is here,’ one insider told Variety. ‘They say their spiritual practice is to be among the people—which means party.  

‘His favorite were raves,’ they added, ‘where he’d go on benders for two or three days at a time.’

Sources also recalled how Miller’s retreat – which on a given day could house dozens of the star’s acquaintances, as well as their hangers-on, to be gun-ridden and unsafe for children – despite their often being kids present on the property, often unsupervised.

‘I saw more guns than ever, and three little kids running around among them,’ one friend who visited the compound in May told Vanity Fair. ‘The youngest girl picked up a bullet and put it in her mouth.’   

The piece – titled, ‘Ezra Miller’s ‘Messiah’ Delusions: Inside The Flash Star’s Dark Spiral’ – also provided further insight of the actor’s deterorating mental state after he started playing The Flash for the superhero’s eponymous Netflix series in 2016.

Their downward spiral reportedly began in 2019, after their parents’ divorce, the article claimed.

‘Ezra didn’t start freaking out and losing control of themselves in public until after this happened,’ said one unnamed friend of the star, whose representatives afterwards denied the claim.

They said: ‘The matters leading up to their recent mental health concerns were a combination of complex, stress-related issues.’

The actor’s then unstable mindset let to the first in his recent slew of arrests – which came after he attacked and choked two strangers at a bar in Iceland. After that altercation, the source claimed, Miller’s behavior would continue to worsen.

Earlier this month Miller was charged with felony burglary in Vermont, and earlier this year was charged with disorderly conduct and harassment at a karaoke bar following two arrests in Hawaii in March, on of which is pictured 

‘The Iceland incident happened, and then it just kept going and going and going and going.’

At the time, the article claimed, Miller was reportedly being counseled by a spiritual adviser named Jasper Young Bear, who told the actor that was the ‘next Messiah.’

The Native American lifecoach allegedly also told the actor  ‘that the Freemasons were sending demons’ to kill him. Sources said that it was at this time that the actor made a habit of referring to themselves ‘as Jesus and the devil.’ 

While penning the expose, Vanity Fair also spoke with Miller’s former fiancée, Erin, to get a better idea on the TV superhero’s state of mind at this time.

Erin, who asked to be identified by her first name, had been dating Miller when they began playing the Flash in 2016. She recalled that at that point, Miller was not a violent person – despite the string of assaults and arrests that were then still to come.

‘The Ezra I knew wasn’t violent or physically abusive toward anyone,’ she said. ‘To think back is painful because we had a deep love and he was good to me.’ 

However, she did recall noticing a darkens beginning to emanate from the actor around the time of their breakup in 2016. 

‘For years he convinced me and all our friends that I was abusive,’ she recalled of their relationship. ‘But looking back, I would be calling out his disrespect and he wouldn’t take responsibility and just call me abusive because of my reaction. 

‘I could have handled it better,’ Erin, a model, went on. ‘I didn’t know the term gaslight back then. I was emotionally f***ed up for years.’ 

She claimed Miller broke up with her after hiring his spiritual adviser, who reportedly told the actor that she was a parasite.

When the allegations of Miller being abusive to others started to emerge, Erin said she felt sad, but somewhat validated that the abuse was not just in her head.

‘Maybe I wasn’t the abusive one after all,’ she told the outlet.

Erin’s feelings are more complex now, she conceded prior to the piece’s publishing Sunday. ‘I can make excuses for him all day, but I don’t want to anymore,’ she said. ‘The illusions of grandeur need to be called out. I will love Ezra always, and I don’t want him to continue down this dark road.’ 

Miller, meanwhile, has been mired in controversy recently, following a number of arrests and allegations that he ‘groomed’ a teenage girl.

Earlier this month Miller was charged with felony burglary in Vermont, and earlier this year was charged with disorderly conduct and harassment at a karaoke bar following two arrests in Hawaii.  

The second incident was for second-degree assault – and saw the actor assert to arresting officers that he was ‘transgender nonbinary’ and did not ‘want to be searched by a man.’

After being called ‘sir’ during the arrest, the actor told one officer, ‘That is an act of intentional bigotry and a technical hate crime.’

The parents of 18-year-old Tokata Iron Eyes, meanwhile, a Native American activist, earlier this year filed a protection order against Miller, accusing the actor of grooming their child and other inappropriate behavior with her as a minor from the age of 12 – allegations the teen has since disputed.

Those incidents, and further allegations of choking a woman in an Icelandic bar, which did not result in charges, had raised questions in Hollywood over the future of The Flash and Miller’s career more broadly.

‘Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,’ Miller, who identifies as non-binary, said in a statement.

‘I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior.

‘I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.’

It ultimately led to a mea culpa where the actor publicly acknowledged his mental health issues and said that he was seeking treatment, although cynics have suggested the move is part of a slick PR campaign designed to try and rehabilitate Miller’s career. 

The actor who has already appeared as the key DC Comics character in several blockbuster films including Justice League, said on August 15: ‘I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior.’ 

Given the recent spate of controversies surrounding Miller, Warner Bros has been preparing to plans to either aid the troubled star, or scrap the $250 million Flash movie

Despite the controversies, Warner Bros earlier this month signaled it intends to go ahead with releasing The Flash, which is due in theaters next summer.

The Hollywood Reporter also notes that this week’s meeting worked both ways and was also an opportunity for both De Luca and Abdy to reaffirm their commitment to Miller and the upcoming film.

Miller was spurred into action after hearing that the pair were looking at canceling the $250 million Flash movie entirely, particularly if the situation around him worsened. 

THR reports how the actor was spooked by the very notion and moved to act.

 ‘They care about The Flash. It’s one of their favorite characters to play,’ said one source speaking of Miller. 

Although the finer details of the meeting were not revealed, it is said to be the first time that Miller had spoken with De Luca and Abdy.  

The actor apologized to them both and promised to work on their own self-care. 

Amid the recent scandal, a video resurfaced on Twitter of Miller appearing to choke a woman at a bar in Reykjavik, Iceland

Neither Warner Bros. nor Miller’s reps have made any formal statements regarding the meetup. 

Despite their supposed star actor’s dubious mental state and criminal record, Warner Bros. is reportedly keen to help Miller despite the severity of some of the allegations against him. 

Miller has been the subject of a number of instances over the last two years which led bosses to consider the idea of scrubbing the movie altogether, much like fellow canceled superhero film, Batgirl. 

The thought of the quarter-billion dollar movie being scraped is said to have jolted him into vowing to clean-up his act, The Hollywood Reporter said.  

The Flash is the first standalone movie for Miller’s character in the ‘DC Extended Universe’ of inter-connected movies owned by Warner, a rival franchise to the Disney-owned and record-breaking Marvel superhero films.

Miller shot to early success with lead roles in acclaimed dramas Afterschool, We Need to Talk About Kevin and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

He was first cast as Barry Allen, aka The Flash, in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, reprising the role in Suicide Squad (2016) and Justice League (2017).
