Tesla ordered by German court to reimburse customers for autonomous driving problems

A court in Munich has ordered Tesla to reimburse a customer for most of the EUR 112,000 (approximately Rs 90,000) she paid for a Model X SUV because of problems with the Autopilot function, Der Spiegel reported today. Friday.

A technical report found that the car did not reliably recognize obstacles such as the narrowing of a construction site and would sometimes activate the brakes unnecessarily.

This could pose a “great danger” in city centers and lead to collisions, the court ruled.

Tesla The lawyers argued that Autopilot was not designed for city traffic, according to Der Spiegel, the court held that drivers could not manually turn the feature on and off in different settings because it would lose focus on driving.

Tesla was not immediately available for comment and declined to comment to Der Spiegel. The court was not immediately available for comment.

US safety regulators are investigating Tesla’s Autopilot function after reports of 16 crashes, including seven injuries and one death, involving Tesla vehicles in Autopilot hit the first responder and the road maintenance vehicle came to a standstill.

Tesla says Autopilot allows vehicles to brake and steer autonomously in their lanes but does not make them capable of self-driving.

Musk said in March that Tesla would likely roll out a test version of its new “Full Self-Driving” software in Europe later this year, subject to regulatory approval.

He told workers at the Berlin factory at the time: “It is quite difficult to be fully self-driving in Europe, adding that a lot of work needs to be done to handle difficult driving situations in Europe. Europe, where roads vary from country to country.
