The above incident happened about 2 years ago and led to the death of a famous lawyer, who is also a friend of the President of South Korea. Initial reports have highlighted that Choi Woan-jong’s Model X picked up momentum without any throttle action and even the brakes failed. While being charged with manslaughter, Choi blamed EV.

Although Choi is said to have been unable to find a job since the accident in December 2020, he also said he suffered from depression. But is there any credence to his claim that the Tesla Model X itself accelerated before hitting the wall? His legal team claimed there was an electrical system problem.

Tesla has yet to officially respond to this, but there are reports of increased monitoring of its electric vehicles following the crash. The US-based EV maker sold nearly 18,000 EVs in South Korea in 2021 even though it doesn’t have a manufacturing facility there. Domestically, it has to compete with the likes of Kia and Hyundai in an intense electric car war.

But such accidents won’t do much to damage Tesla’s reputation, which is also facing investigations in neighboring China over a number of incidents that drivers blame on mechanical failure. . China is the world’s largest electric vehicle market and is crucial to Tesla’s dominating fate in the electric vehicle world.
