Tesla can now insure your electric vehicle in Colorado, Oregon, and Virginia

Tesla’s home insurance currently available in three other states. As Forbes NoteTesla revealed in earnings call that its “real-time” coverage has reached Colorado, Oregon, and Virginia. The automaker has also filed paperwork in Nevada with plans to offer coverage as early as June, though nothing has been announced so far.

As in some other states, insurance determines your premium based on driving behavior rather than standard criteria such as age and credit. Tesla checks the safety scores from its EVs and looks for signs of aggressive habits that could lead to crashes, such as collision warning, emergency braking and rear adjustment. This helps you drive better – and of course, keeps you on the road to buying Tesla cars.

The company eventually plans to offer coverage across the entire United States. Whether that will work or not is still unclear. Tesla offers coverage in California, but they are still seeking permission to use real-time information. It may take some time before its coverage and signature feature becomes available.
