Via Chris Williams: Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford will be taking a crash course later this year for an undisputed welterweight title fight that will tackle the question of who is the No. 1 boxer in the 147-lb division now.
Crawford may not like it but he will have to fight Spence in the trenches if he has any chance of winning. Spence’s tank-like attack would be a nightmare for Crawford because he’s never proven himself capable of such combat.
The Nebraska native will NOT win by putting on his boots and sprinting around the ring for 12 laps, hoping the umpires will give him an ugly win based on his peck & run style.
As far as Chris Williams is concerned, Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) proved he was the No. 1 boxer in the welterweight division last weekend with a devastating ten-round knockout win over the WBA champion. Yordenis Ugas in Arlington, Texas.
Spence and Crawford (38-0.29 KOs) still need to negotiate their fight, and you can’t rule out the possibility that Terence will price himself. But assuming he doesn’t, we’ll see these two undefeated heavyweights potentially battling it out in October or November.
“Following Errol Spence’s tenth round TKO against Yordenis Ugas last weekend, Spence and Terence Crawford began promoting their long-awaited match on Twitter. Guess what? I hope we’ll see it,” Stephen A. Smith told ESPN.
The boxing fans who raved about nool-aid, believing Crawford to be the big fish in the welterweight division, were misled by the careful match-making that his supporters at the Top Rated had taken. do it for his benefit, pitting him against a low-ranking opponent in record-cushion.
“I am praying that we will see it. I’m praying that the boxing advocates finally gave us what we wanted for a change,” Smith continued.
“Listen, after all this time and all this waiting, I’m no longer certain that Errol Spence Jr has the upper hand over Terence Crawford. Spence has always been considered the preferred odds with Crawford the challenger to the throne.
“But as we hoped to get closer to them actually meeting in the ring, I couldn’t stand it. I am starting to review.
“I love Crawford’s speed and overall boxing, the fact that he can vary from the usual. [right-handed stance] for southpaw, and some of those newfound powers too. He brought some of that with him.
Stephen A. said of Crawford: “Each of his last nine matches ended in a KO, TKO, or retirement. “Spence is the favorite because of his big time, and I love him too, always, always,
“But I think it’s a choice for all of you, a choice. And when it comes down to it and when we finally get the fight we crave and absolutely deserve, I think I’ll go with Terence Crawford.
“I’m not sure, but I’m leaning in that direction. I just don’t know, I just don’t know,” said Stephen A, who sounded like he was unraveling when he realized that Spence could end his vision.
