Via Chris Williams: Terence Crawford responded to Errol Spence Jr’s Instagram post today, saying he would “Smash” him as they both fight for the next undisputed welterweight championship.
The 147-lb IBF/WBA/WBC champion posted a photo of himself this week at a supermarket with his shopping list checked next to the names of Kell Brook, Yordenis Ugas and Shawn Porter, as if he put them in the basket. The only name left on Spence’s list is Crawford.
The fight between Spence and Crawford still needs to be negotiated, and given the history between the two, you can’t assume the match will be a success. Chris Williams will remain skeptical until he sees them inside the ring.
“I love this energy. Hold it up. I’ll smack you, and then I’ll come cheer for you Twin Charlo [Jermell]. That is if he wants to fight,” said Terence Crawford in response to Errol Spence’s Instagram upload.
“I’ve been leaning towards Spence for a while, and I have no reason to change that opinion,” Carson Merk told. Porter Way Podcast. “At the highest level, the fractions are very small. The difference is very small. So this is one of those things where we can’t say, ‘He takes care of him easily.’
“I think Errol is better, but Bud is not far behind. They are still the best fighters on the planet.
“There is a bit of spice between the two [Spence & Crawford]. You heard Errol after the fight, and Bud, “Keep your belts warm until I pick them up.” It’ll be fun and you’ve got Derrick James. He doesn’t back down to a verbal exchange. You know BoMac is frustrated by it.
“These are the two best welding weights we have had in decades. I hope we see it, there’s no reason why it can’t happen. I wouldn’t even put that in an atmosphere where it didn’t happen.
“Terence is, ‘You want a little more, get it,’” Shawn Porter said when told that Spence would continue to press relentlessly. “This will be the next fight for both of these gentlemen. The only thing is that Crawford has to feel respected.
“If he feels underrated, we always talk about A-side, B-side, I think in this case, who is running the business, let alone A-side, B-side.
“This is a 50-50 fight and overthrow it. Then in the rematch, you talk 60-40 because of what went down,” unified Porter of the Spence vs. Crawford said.
“A guy with three belts [Errol] and a guy has a [Crawford],” said Merk. “I’m not saying that dictates, but one has three belts and the other has one.”
“I am not trying to lose the war, but I am trying to show you how to do business with Crawford. You make Crawford feel respected,” said Porter, making it clear that he feels Spence should agree with the idea of a 50-50 split.
“He should be respected,” Merk said of Crawford.
