Teofimo Lopez fell, stopping Pedro Campa was seven rounds

Teofimo Lopez is back.

The former lightweight champion, fighting in the junior weight division for the first time, dominated Pedro Campa before stopping the bout, but overtook Mexico in the seventh inning of a 10-round bout scheduled for Tuesday. Saturday in Las Vegas.

Lopez (17-1, 13 KOs) had a disappointing performance against George Kambosos Jr., who won his undisputed championship by a split decision last November.

It’s unclear if the Brooklyn boxer will be able to regain the magic he used to upset Vasiliy Lomachenko in October 2020, which earned him his belt.

On Saturday, Lopez, 25, looked like a rising pounder of the elderly. He used his shot to set up tough, precise powerful shots from the opening bell, helping him win round after round.

Aggressive Campa (34-2-1, 23 KOs) pushed the fight action a lot and had a few good moments. He also revealed a nice chin. However, the punches he absorbed gradually knocked him down, leading to the knockout.

Lopez put him in his pants with a quick right-left combo in the final round. Campa got up and continued to hit, but a few more hard blows convinced referee Tony Weeks to stop the fight.

The official stoppage time is 2:14 of Round 7.

Lopez has been ranked 140th by all four major sanctioning bodies – number 5 by the WBC and WBO – meaning his chances of fighting for a major title are probably close.

And if he looks as sharp as he did on Saturday, he could end up with another belt around his waist.
