Hyderabad:

Telangana Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy has ordered the cancellation of government accreditation of a private school in Hyderabad where a 4-year-old child was allegedly raped for two months, and students must transferred to other schools, said Sabitha Indra Reddy, Telangana Education Minister.

The Minister has also ordered that a committee headed by the Education Minister of Telangana must submit a report to the government on what security measures can be taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. so.

The committee will be made up of the Director of School Education, the Secretary of the Women’s and Children’s Welfare Division and a senior official for child protection against sex offenders. The report will be submitted within one week.

The school in the Banjara Hills area was closed after the incident became public. The school principal’s driver, accused of raping and sexually assaulting the child for more than two months, was arrested Wednesday. Later, the school’s principal, who allegedly laughed at the abuse complaint and failed to act on it, was also arrested, following parental protests.

The parents noticed changes in the child’s behavior and when the mother questioned the child, she realized that something was wrong. The child was reported only to the driver who approached the children inside the school.

Angry parents assaulted the driver and sat on a pier in front of Banjara Hills police station, after which an FIR was registered.

An investigation found that CCTV in the school was not working and that the driver also often took on the role of a preschool teacher.

While the Minister intends to send a strong message to school administrators about the importance that should be given to the safety of children, the order to close schools and transfer children has also caused a lot of concern among parents and government officials.

There are 700 students enrolled at the school and finding places for them at other schools, also in the middle of the school year, will be a big challenge.

Senior officials said that although the minister has said that the district’s education officer will address all concerns of students and parents, the closure of schools and transfers of children. else doesn’t seem to be a realistic option.

The child sex crime prevention law as well as guidelines for keeping children safe at home and at school have detailed procedures to follow. But regulation and implementation is a challenge.

Award-winning Padmashree activist Sunitha Krishnan, who has campaigned for years about the need to publicly register known sex offenders, reiterated the need after the incident.

She says the database should be used while booking appointments in schools and other settings.

Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao responded positively to Ms Krishnan’s tweet and said the government was keen to act quickly on the matter.
