Teenage girl killed in shark attack in Australia | World News

A teenage girl has been killed in a shark attack in Australia.

Police said the 16-year-old boy was pulled from the Swan River in Perth with serious injuries on Saturday.

She died at the scene.

Inspector Paul Robinson said the victim had been traveling with friends on jet skis and they had witnessed an “extremely traumatic incident”.

He said “maybe a school of dolphins was seen nearby and the young female jumped into the water to swim near the dolphins”.

The official added that the victim’s family was not present at that time.

The type of shark involved in the attack is currently unknown.

The Australian Department of Fisheries said it was unusual for a shark to swim this far in the river that flows through Perth into the Indian Ocean.

This is believed to be the first fatal shark attack in the Swan River since January 1923, when a 13-year-old boy was killed.
