The 2-year-old sales season kicks off Tuesday with the start of the two-day Ocala Breeder Sales Company March Sale. Hips 1-316 sell on Tuesday and Hips 317-635 go under the hammer on Wednesday.

“I am very pleased with the horses we have seen on the field,” said Tod Wojciechowski, OBS sales manager. “The interest from buyers is very good.”

He added, “We were able to add another level of horses that may not be in line with the upper echelons of the price range, but are very good horses. March is the key sale in the 2-year-old market.”

The industry entered the brood season thanks to an exceptionally strong sales season and a healthy stock market.

The horsemen are optimistic that the momentum will bring the 2-year-old revenue.

Deliverer Niall Brennan said: “The horse business has traditionally gone hand in hand with the stock market. “Clearly there are a lot of ups and downs right now because of the war in Ukraine. I didn’t know it would affect too much right now. I think the markets are prepared for that, knowing it could happen. There is no big shock change for the people in the market. There may be some people who don’t know what to do right now and can wait for the April sale, but I don’t get that vibe. There was a lot of interest and a lot of people coming to the city early. It is another medium with desirable sales. They have to get through a lot of hoops, but which ones do, I think it’s going to be a big sale for them. ”

Joe Pickerell of Pick View said he feels high demand will keep the market strong during the teen sales season.

“You can expect the momentum to continue,” says Pickerell. “Supply is decreasing. Every trainer you talk to needs horses. We have grown quite strongly this year and invested a lot. We’d love to get rewarded for some of this. “

OBS March sale will offer first 2 year olds to many exciting stallions such as Triple Crown winners Evenlybred level I winner MendelssohnMGISWs Bolt d’Oro and City of lightchampion UrgeGI Kentucky Hero Derby Always dreamingGI Preakness S. victor Cloud Computing and more.

Last year’s OBS March sales topped $750,000 from the first Realistic jokes. Acquired by Hideyuki Mori from the manuscript of Top Line Sales, she is now named Clos de Mesnil and a winner in Japan.

At this auction’s 2021 renewal, 325 horses had raised $37,970,000 with an average of $116,831 and a median of $60,000. These numbers include after-sales figures.

Tuesday’s trading session is delayed from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to allow buyers more time to check out after the last of the three scheduled shows Saturday was pushed back to Sunday due to the storm making landfall in the Ocala area. Those storms brought a tornado, which affected much of the Ocala area, but OBS sales facilities, as well as most of the large thoroughbred farms in the area, were unharmed. Wednesday’s session will begin as scheduled at 10:30 am
