Renowned boxing analyst and trainer Teddy Atlas has offered his views on a potential superfight between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis.
Above latest episode of his podcast ‘The Fight’Atlas begins by saying that Ryan Garcia’s natural size gives him an edge over his lightweight opponents:
“He knows he has an edge over him [Gervonta Davis] at 140 and I’ll tell you why – he’s got a bigger skeleton and he’s only 23.
“Tank is young too but he doesn’t have that skeleton to complete the way Garcia does.”
“He [Garcia] could end his career at 147.”
The former coach believes that Garcia permanently switching to Junior Welterweight was a smart move considering the amount of talent in the division he leaves behind:
“With that skeleton at the age of 23, he will have an edge on these light weight classes and he will skip that weight class – which I think is smart because the best competitors, the best fighters. first, in the light weight class, not the base weight class.”
The fiery analyst didn’t hold back when he talked about Oscar De La Hoya and the chance that we could watch these big battles:
“I’ll tell you another thing – I didn’t expect to see any of these fights because De La Hoya lost Canelo and all he has is this guy. [Garcia]”
“I mean he’s hanging by a rope – that’s all he has.”
“He won’t risk his golden goose, his new golden goose, he won’t risk him, he’ll make money fighting fakers – guys like Fortuna. “
“Once again you [De La Hoya] try to go back – that’s a shame. “
He rounded up the podcast with much praise for Garcia’s performance last Saturday:
“Ryan Garcia is so talented, he’s so talented – he’s got the right person up front to show off his pieces and to really show off.”
