Team Andy Ruiz says Wilder ‘don’t care’ about fighting
Andy Ruiz’s father and manager, Andres Ruiz, remains hopeful of a fight between his son and Deontay Wilder despite the suggestion that ‘The Bronze Bomber’ doesn’t want it.
Both PBC fighters are having impressive victories. Ruiz Jr beat the always tough Luis Ortiz in twelve rounds, while Wilder reminded the boxing world of his devastating prowess with a first-round knockout of Finland’s Robert Helenius.
Now, the two are on a collision course. The WBC has officially ordered them to face off as the final knockout, the winner of which will be lined up to claim the title of Tyson Fury – the title previously held by Wilder. Although there were no business obstacles along the way and the order of the regulator, Ruiz Sr was not convinced that Wilder’s team wanted the fight. He talked to Izquierdazotranslated by Boxing scene.
“Nothing [official] … We have until December to decide who he will fight. But Wilder is the one we want.”
“I think Wilder wants [unified champion Oleksandr] Usyk or [Anthony] Joshua, he said he doesn’t care, but we hope the fight goes on because they will make it mandatory. “
Turning to another potential opponent for his son, Ruiz Sr mentions Frank Sanchez – a highly regarded Cuban prospect who is building an unbeaten record.
“One more battle [with PBC] and they didn’t tell me who we were going to fight. It could also be with another Cuban, with Frank Sanchez, but we’ll see who they want to take him with.”
While the game against Sanchez will be interesting for a few reasons, a fight with Wilder remains the most likely. The former champion from Alabama can hold out for Usyk, but with an undisputed war between Ukraine and Fury set for early next yearRuiz Jr may just be his best route back to world titles.
