Team 1 winning coach Harry Dunlop has announced that he will be taking a break from training at the end of this season.
Just over a week after established pitcher Joe Tuite retired from his career due to financial difficulties, Dunlop has revealed he will be leaving the coaching staff for the same reason.
The highlight of Dunlop’s career came when Robin Of Navan (Fr) won the G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud in 2015, while Knight To Behold (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), Fighting Irish (Ire) (Camelot {GB}), Classic Remark (Ire) (Dr Fong) and Festoso (Ire) (Diesis {GB}) won the black elimination races for coach Lambourn.
The son of former coach John at Arundel and the older brother of Classic Ed, Dunlop is keen to stay in racing if he can.
“That’s something I’ve been thinking about for the past few years, and my main reason is that it’s so difficult to maintain a thriving business in the current economic climate,” Dunlop said in a statement posted on Twitter.
“When you don’t have a huge herd of horses to cover the rising costs of staff, transportation, feed, litter, it just isn’t possible.
“Thankfully my business is doing well so I thought it was a good time to make this decision and look for a new career.
“We have had some great horses and customers over the years and many memorable race days.
“I will be looking at future work options in the racing industry and beyond, which is very exciting.
“I would like to thank my current team at Frenchmans Lodge Stables, who have been so supportive, as have all of my owners.”
Dunlop took a high win at Ascot on Saturday with Adaay In Asia (GB) (Adaay {Ire}), who also took gold at Goodwood, landing the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Sprint.
