In the document, La Dart suggests that Taylor and her team read her book The Lover and decided to copy the concept and stick Swift’s name on it.

The author says both works not only share the same title, but each is a ‘recollection of bygone years remembered with a combination of written and visual elements.’

In addition, La Dart argues that the color scheme and style of the images used are too similar to be coincidental.

La Dart wants more than a million dollars in damages. Swift’s legal team has yet to respond to the claim.

However, they are busy settling a separate copyright claim against Taylor’s hit song Shake It Off.

Earlier this month, Swift’s attorney filed an official response to a plagiarism lawsuit from two musicians – Sean Hall and Nathan Butler – who allege Shake It Off used lines from the song Playas Gon’ Play. 2001, performed by the girl group 3LW.

The lawsuit was originally filed in 2017, then dropped because a judge found the lyrics mentioned were too general, however, the case was reopened on appeal.

In a sworn statement to Billboard, Taylor said she never stole any lyrics from the 2001 song and added that she had never even heard of the group that released it.

She said: ‘Until I learned about Plaintiff’s claim’ in 2017, I had never heard the song Playas Gon’ Play and had never heard that song or the 3LW group.

Taylor added: ‘None of the CDs I listened to as a kid, or after, were 3LW.

“I have never heard the song ‘Playas Gon ‘Play’ on radio, television or in any movie. The first time I heard the song was after this statement was made. ‘

The lines “players will play” and “players will hate” are introduced in similar versions on each song.

The girl group 3LW was active in the late ’90s and early ’00s and included Naturi Noughton and The Cheetah Girls stars Adrienne Bailon and Kiely Williams.

Playas Gon’ Play received significant airplay, reaching 86 on the Hot 100 chart.

But the song’s success pales in comparison to Taylor’s monster hit Shake It Off, which topped the Hot 100 and several other music charts after its 2014 release.

In her statement, Taylor also discussed her inspiration for Shake It Off’s lyrics, which came from ‘public scrutiny’ of her life.

She said: ‘I recall hearing phrases about players and haters being said to each other by other children while attending school in Wyomissing Hills and at high school in Hendersonville.

‘These phrases are similar to other commonly used sayings like ‘don’t hate the playa, hate the game’, ‘take a cold pill’ and ‘say it, don’t spray it. ‘ ‘

A representative for the Folklore singer has yet to release a statement, but a lawyer for Hall and Butler said the court ‘did it right.’

Their attorney Marina Bogorad said: ‘Our clients are finally getting closer to the justice they so well deserve. ‘This opinion… especially pleased them because it reinforced the idea that their creativity and unique expression could not be appropriated without retaliation. “

Although Taylor will now have to go to court for the case, the judge has yet to set a court date.

Last week, a member of 3LW, Kiely Williams, settled the lawsuit and separated herself and old friends from the proceedings.

‘We don’t write songs. We are not suing Taylor Swift. We’re not even a thing, the 36-year-old said in an Instagram Live. ‘I’m speaking for myself, but what’s right is right.

‘[3LW] I don’t write songs either. They don’t deserve any kind of flack for it and the whole thing about putting our real names on it. I really feel the urge just because it’s escalating. I watched it and I said, ‘Oh, I don’t care. I do not care. I do not care. I’m fine.’ But how? Okay. You’ve never heard of [the song]. Okay, that’s your defense. It’s good now. But please educate people that it has nothing to do with us.

‘When you say things like that, you feel very uncomfortable. Because now, once you put the team’s name on it, it’s going to look like these money-hungry guys are just trying to get some Taylor coins. No. I don’t want her money. ‘
