Taylor Swift is busy rehearsing for her upcoming tour, but she still makes sure to keep the content coming! At midnight on January 27, she released her third music video from midnight albumreleased in October. The video is for the album’s opening track, “Lavender Haze,” and tells the love story sung by Taylor in the poppy song.
The video begins with Taylor lying in bed next to a muscular boyfriend. When she wakes up and dances in her shirt and underwear, she conjures a purple haze around the 1970s-style bedroom – complete with vintage turntables and flip-side clocks. bed. Then she crawls through a lavender-covered living room to step through a tube television into… a galaxy of fish. And while it may seem confusing, that’s because it has to be – remember, we’re in a haze of lavender.
The most striking image of the video, and the one that says the most for fans of Taylor’s striking style, is the image of the singer immersed in purple water — her hair swept back. behind, deep purple lips and naked body surrounded by lavender petals.
“Lavender Haze” is one of many love songs for Joe Alwyn above midnight. The album is a look back at some of the sleepless nights throughout Taylor’s life, and some of those sleepless nights were inspired by falling in love with her current lover, whom she’s been dating since 2016. Before midnight debut, Taylor revealed that she had heard the term “lavender” in an episode of Crazy man and was inspired to use it in a song.
“Lavender Haze” refers to a time when you fell deeply in love with someone. Taylor sings about what she went through with Joe when they first met, a time when she received a lot of criticism in the public eye. “I was under surveillance, you handled it beautifully, all this damn stuff is new to me,” she sings in the first line. During the chorus, Taylor sings about wanting to stay in the “lavender scent” phase for as long as possible. In the second sentence, she goes back to the idea that Joe was never confused by what the public said about her. “I’m dizzy, they’re telling my history, but you’re not even listening,” she crooned.
Taylor has previously released videos for two others midnight follow, “anti-hero” and “bejeweled,” but it’s been three months waiting for this sequel to come out. Meanwhile, she’ll be on her way hers age tour at the end of March, and had been practicing hard for the show.
When Taylor celebrated her 33rd birthday in December, she also teased that she would spend the day in the studio with her longtime collaborator, Jack Antonov. Although she did not specify what project she is working on, fans are eagerly awaiting the release of 4 more Taylor re-recorded albums. In the music video “Bejeweled”, she gave some hints that Say will be the next re-recorded album to be released, but Taylor has yet to confirm a release date at this time.
