Tax haven 3000 changed the release date a few times, moving from March 31 which is suspiciously close to April Fools’ Day to April 4 after remove from Steam, as of yesterday, March 27. For the uninitiated, Tax Heaven 3000 is an anime dating sim that claims to do your taxes and asks you to provide identifying information like email and Number Social Security. It could be a prank app, partly because of its Iris waifu (like the IRS) and partly because it comes from MSCHF, the art collective behind Lil Nas X’s Satan Shoes and other viral products.
You can download Tax Heaven 3000 on Itching.io free, but there’s also a $90 Collector’s Edition that includes a boxed version of the game complete with discs and manuals. It also comes with a life-size Iris hug pillow, but alas, all good things come to an end and this version has sadly sold out.
Even though the Collector’s Edition is sold out, I still recommend snooping around Tax Heaven’s Official website. Clicking the X-rated patch button – for research purposes of course – will take you to Wattpad, a free website that lets you read and publish stories. I heard it’s also very popular among One Direction fanfic writers. I didn’t read all the Tax heaven 3000 storiesbut it ends with this lovely passage: “Somewhere between life’s randomness and the inevitable tax cycle, I know we’ll find each other again and again.”
The “Declaration” section of the website also contains some offensive words for “parasitic” corporate tax services that “deliberately complicate the tax return process so that ordinary people cannot access it.” accessible”. To counter that, MSCHF created “free software that is instead built on a social desire for intimacy and light sex!”
I quickly jumped into Tax Heaven 3000 – using a fake SSN and phone number – and it was cute. The dating simulation runs through a bit – it’s a game about seducing a tax-obsessed girl and the joke has been around all the time. For example, her way of asking if you have children is to ask if you have any tax dependents. She is also actively anti-crypto, calling it a pyramid scheme. Wonderful girl.
There are some surprisingly funny scenes here, too. One date, Iris asks you to fix her copier, before you magically learn to code. Although, Iris wouldn’t date you if you weren’t a US citizen, which might sound xenophobic, but I’m pretty sure it’s just because she loves taxes so much. There are some subtle (possibly?)
