Breeders Champion ‘Cup Tarnawa (Ire) (Shamardal), who was Retired in November, will visit Frankel (GB) for her first daughter, Pat Downes, Director of The Aga Khan Studs in Ireland, announced on Nick Luck Daily audio file.
Raised and raced by Aga Khan, the chestnut has scored three times at its 2020 high, at the Prix Vermeille, the Prix de l’Opera and the Breeders’ Cup Turf. She finished second in the G1 Irish S. Championship.
“The plan for her first season at stud school will be that she will travel to the UK to be covered by Frankel, so we’re excited about that,” Downes told Nick Luck on the podcast. “That was the decision we made. For example, when you actually look at her pedigree, she’s not a Cape Cross mare (Ire), so Sea The Stars (Ire) isn’t an option for her.
“I imagine we will send her to France for Siyouni at some point, but we have an older sister of hers who is now in her second year so we will see how she continues before make that particular decision.
The options for someone as chubby as Tarnawa are relatively slim to begin her academic career. “
