Tanya Gunther was very happy to watch the latest part ‘Rising star TDN’ Justique (Evenly) made it difficult for the competition in her spectacular debut, but the horseman admitted that a few thoughts about what might have flashed through her mind as she recalled her promising early days. “I really don’t want to sell her,” Gunther said with a smug smile. “Most of the kids in our year went to sales, but I was a bit sad when we let her go.”
Bred by Tanya’s father, John Gunther, in partnership with Eurowest Bloodstock, Justique was the sixth of a series of Grazie Mille (Bernardini) mares to breed Gunthers shares. When the Black Bay foal arrived in March 2020, the Gunthers were captured on the other side of the Atlantic at the start of the pandemic.
Tanya Gunther receives Justique’s photo updates regularly throughout the year. When she finally returned to Glennwood, she made up for lost time with the boy working with the trash during the summer of her year of desire.
“I was in our dirty cage a lot during our prep season, so I spent a lot of time with her,” explains Gunther. “I know her very well and she is my favorite. She has a very sporty look on her, just like Scat Daddy and Evenly upcoming aspects. “
The Justique will sell for $725,000 at Keeneland’s September sale before joining the John Shirreffs stable in the race for CRK Stable.
“I’m really hoping that she’ll be something special and so far, she’s looking pretty interesting,” Gunther said.

While Gunther may have had to part with Grazie Mille’s first daughter, EvenlyJustique’s full sister arrived in Glennwood in March of this year, and Gunther says the little girl will almost certainly stay at their operation.
“She was an exceptional individual,” Gunther reported. “She is very beautiful, has long legs and has great vision. She’s just a beauty, just like Justique was once a pony. “
A shiny chestnut color with a hint of chromium, this youngster has the clear imprint of her male counterpart, who used to crisscross the very same beaches at Glennwood before achieving Triple Crown glory. Glennwood Ranch is an ardent supporter of Coolmore studs and Gunther says she is finding common trends in Evenlyoffspring.
“I noticed that while his children may not always be fire chestnuts, they definitely have a physique that I find similar to him,” she explains. “While [Justique and her sister] Available in different colors, they are very similar to one model. “
Every daughter of Evenly represent their breeders on both sides of their pedigree. John Gunther purchased their second dam, Molto Vita (Carson City), for $24,000 in 2000. She won the GIII Thoroughbred Club of America S. Her third pony, Grazie Mille, impressively broke her girlhood for Chad Brown, but was forced to retire early.
“She was a very talented racehorse, but she broke her knee and we had to retire her early,” recalls Gunther. “I think she’s going to be a stake horse and so will her trainer.”
Grazie Mille’s first pony Mo town (Uncle Mo) earn ‘Rising Star’ nodded in two and went on to double success in the GII Remsen S. and GI Hollywood Derby before joining the lineup at Ashford Stud. With classmates EvenlyHe is represented by the runner’s first season this year.
With the immense upside potential for Grazie Mille and her growing production record, Gunther has high hopes for the thoroughbred mare.
“We had good luck raising it to Uncle Mo very early on before he got a runner-up and that’s how she rolls around as a child with progeny behind her name, so now hoping to move on and come up from there. “
