Swords, Guns At UP Dussehra Rally, Cops Say “Tradition”

A huge crowd carrying saffron flags and chanting “Jai Shri Ram” waved swords and guns during a Dussehra rally in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.
Videos of the protest in Siddharth Nagar district went viral and sparked calls to action.
Police said the protest was part of the tradition in these places to celebrate Dussehra or Vijay Dashami, marking the end of the 10-day festival of Durga Puja.
Videos showed protest participants flaunting swords and guns while loud music played in the background.
Armed men dance to religious songs and chant “Jai Shri Ram”. Some were spotted making videos and taking selfies.
Some have taken to social media, demanding action against those seen with weapons.
Responding to such a tweet, police said, “the tradition of carrying out armed processions in Dussehra. An investigation has been launched to investigate other allegations.
