Switch 2 Leaks “Possibly Legit” According to New Report
Last week, mystery Reddit leaker ‘NextHandheld’ announced they have their hands on Nintendo’s Switch successor. The Verge have now spoken to the same individual and are “largely convinced” that they are “legitimate”.
The Verge’s senior editor, Sean Hollister, revealed the leaker showed the publication some photos and went on to describe the various components – starting with the dock:
Dock: “I saw two pictures of the Nintendo Switch 2 dock and one picture of the dock. inside about the possible Switch 2 controller rails, which are covered with certification logos and have exposed copper contacts, which also shows that its metal base hinge opens at an angle .”
It was further noted that the name and logo for Nintendo’s new console could be as simple as “Nintendo Switch 2”. The dock is also said to not have “more ports than the original”:
Name & logo: “I see a picture of a dock, with the same logo as the original Nintendo Switch, with only two attached…the dock doesn’t appear to have more ports than the original — two USB-A, one HDMI , one ethernet and a USB-C can be used for its power brick – it can have one distinctive up its sleeve.”
Controllers were also discussed – Hollister explained how the Joy-Con rails could be swapped out for magnets while admitting Several previous rumors made similar claims:
Controller: “The photo I saw of the joystick area has no rails: it’s just a long, round, hollow area, with a 13-pin connector sticking out so the Joy-Con can be plugged in. NextHandheld says there is a physical magnetic click when you attach them and you’ll press a much larger button on the controller, a button physically connected to the magnet, to release.”
The full story goes into more detail – including claims that the “drift” problem will become a thing of the past thanks to a “magnetic Hall effect joystick” and Hollister says he’s also seen the leg design New U-shaped base:
Bracket: “Case makers have also started sharing images of similar U-shaped stands…but it looks like it might be sturdier than some models”
Regarding the power of the new system and dock, it will apparently be “significantly higher” than the original, which could allow the device to “run a little faster”:
Power: “I can see the dock is supposed to have big feet around the back, those are positioned so that it can sit horizontally without blocking a set of vents…NextHandheld says the dock is rated for 60W, while the Switch 2 is rated for 45W, both of which are significantly higher compared to the original”
