Swan on train tracks holds up rush hour commuters for an hour | UK News
Rush hour trains were delayed by about an hour on Monday morning after a swan was spotted on the rails.
The bird was found on the tracks in Staines, Surrey, at around 8 a.m., when stopping trains through the area bound for Ascot in Berkshire.
The South Western Railway Twitter account joked that “our very own Sgt Angel” handled the swan – a reference to the 2007 police comedy Hot Fuzz.
It features Simon Pegg’s character Nicholas Angel and his partner chasing an escaped swan through town.
Network Rail’s Wessex route posted an image on its Twitter account showing the animal being carried in a bag.
“If you turn on the rail, you get The Bag,” it said.
Some affected passengers in Staines were not amused, with one tweet: “Stuck on the bridge between Staines and Egham because of ‘a swan sitting on the train tracks’… passed. Can someone come and move the bird.”
