Suspect in attack on US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband ‘wanted to break her kneecaps’ | US News
According to court papers, the suspect who attacked the husband of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told police he wanted to take her hostage and “break her kneecap”.
The US Department of Justice has charged 42-year-old David DePape with assault and attempted kidnapping.
According to court papers, DePape told police he would take Ms. Pelosi hostage and talk to her.
If she told him the “truth”, he would let her go, and if she “lie” he would break her “patella”.
DePape allegedly broke into the Pelosi home in San Francisco on Friday and assaulted Paul Pelosi, 82.
He confronted Mr. Pelosi as he slept in the couple’s bedroom, according to a federal affidavit filed in court on Monday.
Pelosi underwent surgery for a fractured skull and injuries to her right hand and arm, his wife’s office said. Doctors expect a full recovery.
The announcement of the federal charges comes as the San Francisco district attorney prepares to release state criminal charges against DePape.
He was arrested Friday on suspicion of attempted murder, elder abuse and theft. He is expected to be charged on Tuesday.
