Richard Agar has been left looking for answers after Leeds’ loss to Salford
Richard Agar admitted he was scratching his head after Leeds Rhinos slipped to fifth in the 2022 Betfred Super League season, a 26-12 defeat to the Salford Reds.
Chris Atkin, Elijah Taylor and Ryan Brierley all came through to seal Salford’s victory with a late strike after Leeds took a slim four-point lead as the game entered the final stages.
The belated fallout means Leeds’ win at Wakefield Trinity earlier this month remains their only win of the season, but head coach Agar remains determined to turn the tide.

“We’re a proud club and I put a lot of faith in the players we’ve gathered together,” Agar said when asked how secure he feels in his position. “What we used in the game didn’t reflect what we produced in the building of the game. It was really, really tough.
“I don’t think big changes to the team are the answer, but we certainly need to show more. Why do we make decisions like that in games? Maybe it’s spontaneity. trust or pressure?We need to give some answers.

“We have to think a lot about where we stand at this point. It’s been difficult for each person in the organization and also for the supporters. We’re looking for some answers.

On the other hand, Salford boss Paul Rowley was naturally delighted with his team’s performance at AJ Bell Stadium.
The result ended a three-match losing streak after the Reds started the season with straight wins, with Ken Sio also scoring for the home side while Ash Handley and Mikolaj Oledzki passed for Leeds.

Rowley said: “I am delighted for the players and supporters. “It was a relief to get a few points after a losing streak. It was a good atmosphere and the fans on both sides played a part in the event.
“The boys reacted brilliantly. I think both Richard Agar and I called out to our teams for attitude and intention after the last game, so I’m relieved and pleased to hear that.” the boys got their reward for playing hard. It was nip and tuck, but we stuck to our beliefs.”
