Super affordable DIY wallpaper hacks!

I like the look of the wallpaper. However, I do not love Price of wallpaper or its semi-permanent like. Even the more affordable options are generally more than I want to spend, and I’d rather put it on a cool chair or light for a room than spend it all on the walls.

Thankfully, there’s a super affordable way to hack your own wallpaper, and I’ll show you different ways to make it right for you based on your budget, your skill level, how much you want. personalize it and the amount of time you want to commit to it.

Okay, the big budget-friendly trick for wallpapers is… Removable wall decals! Easy to install and take down by yourself so you save on installation and disassembly costs, and the actual material is much more affordable!

Choose your wall decal route based on the following options…

Just like anything in life, you can decide if you want to spend more or less on wall decals. The end of the “more” scale will usually be a little less than wallboard (especially if you have to pay someone to install the wallpaper), but even in this category, there are ways to save and save.

You’ll pay more for decals that are pre-cut and ready for you to stick (like this and this) than you would if you cut yourself from rolls like this or this. You can also stretch your budget by spreading the decals further out than you see in the example photo so you can cover more space for that amount.

If you decide to purchase your own roll of vinyl to cut yourself, you can opt for a design that can be cut by hand (which is tedious but can depend on the design and you can recruit help if needed!) or you can invest in a cutter like this if you haven’t already (and you can cut all the decals you want in no time).

It may not be worth buying a cutter just for a small room or a wall of decals (unless you also want to use it for its other features, like for making cards and t-shirts, etc.) , but I’ve used mine as wallpaper for four rooms along with other projects, so overall it’s really worth it.

For example, I used about three rolls of each color for the stars in my bedroom, with colors ice cream, melon, tulipand yellow signaland since I’ve been waiting for a sale, I spent less than $50 on vinyl to cover the entire room-NOT BAD!

I used a cutter I own to cut the shapes, but I could also opt for a more organic design to cut with scissors instead if I don’t have a cutter or want to buy one.

Skill level:

When it comes to DIY projects, skill level always plays an important part in what a person might choose to take on. For wall decals, there are tons of skill level options, so you can choose what works best for you!

Easiest: Buy pre-cut decals (like this) and stick them on your wall!

Medium: Buy your own vinyl and cut out an easy shape with scissors (dots, confetti, or leopard spots look more organic).

High level: Use a cutter and computer software to create the design and have the cutter do it for you. This method is definitely easier for the hand muscles than cutting out the shapes yourself, but you have to take the time to learn how to use the software etc. Workable and worth it if you ask me !

Personalization level:

If you don’t see exactly what you want on sale, if you buy decals on Etsy you can ask the seller to do something special for you if they’re flexible and don’t have exactly what you want. .

One reason I like the cutter method is that I can choose completely the shape, size, and color scheme I want, and the only limitation is the color selection of vinyl I can find. But, beyond that, it all depends on me!

So if you’re a little more open to what’s already available, you can use an option that already exists. But if you need to match something existing in your home, or are just super fussy like me, you might want to go for an option that you can customize a bit more.

Time commitment:

Are you trying to get this done quickly or do you have more time to do this? Ordering a pre-cut decal will let you go straight to the application and you’ll be done in an afternoon, but you’ll want to spend a little more time if you’re cutting all the decals by hand (another activity). great animations to do while you watch movies).

Using the cutter means you’ll spend time in the user interface getting your design set up and ready to start cutting, but when it’s ready, your only job is to load the vinyl into the cutter regularly and let it do its job.
