Sun Belt conference looking like a Super Conference

There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding college football right now as it seems like the landscape of the sport is changing forever. Texas and Oklahoma are joining the SEC. USC and UCLA are joining the Big 10. It looks like we’re headed for two super conferences that will be the top tier, and then only the others.

Change is inherently scary, but nothing has really changed because college football already has a super convention: the Belt of the Sun.

Saturday had some major and completely unforeseen disturbances stemming from the same convention. Not only that, there is a similar division: the Eastern Sun Belt. Sun Belt West hasn’t started pulling their weight yet, and for now, I couldn’t care less about them. Whoever wins that division will be damned in the congress championship game of the Eastern representative excelling physically, mentally and spiritually.

Marshall’s win at Notre Dame, Appalachian State showed that their recruiting class should have been ranked the best in the nation by beating Texas A&M, and Georgia Southern carried out the execution (or merciless killing) Scott Frost’s Nebraska tenure, leading to his dismissal. Not only that, but Old Dominion beat Virginia Tech a week ago for the second time in five years, and Georgia State narrowly lost to North Carolina (as did App. State a week ago).

This department also has JMU, a team that is a newcomer to FBS, but has been a longtime national championship contender in FCS and Coastal Carolina, who has lost three games in the last two years, which includes an undefeated regular season in 2020.

So now that we’ve determined that this division is currently the best in college football, what are the chances that one of these teams will represent the group of five in a new Six-Year league?

Typical candidates Houston and Cincinnati have both lost, so their chances are not great. The two most likely teams are the Western Mountain Air Force and the independent BYU.

The Air Force is favored in every game this season, and if they can run the table, it will probably be an option. BYU also beat a Top 10 team this weekend, beating Baylor who was then 9th.

BYU actually has quite an interesting schedule, full of competition not inferior to Sun Belt, such as Pac-12, Mountain West and SEC. This week they play at Oregon, where they are slightly underrated. Then in October, they played at Notre Dame, followed by a home game against Arkansas.

I think if there was any justice in the world, and BYU lost at Notre Dame, then Marshall would be ahead of them in the rankings because they were able to get the job done. Appalachian State vs. Marshall on November 12 will also be included in prime time on ABC.

They say that in the NFL, it’s like playing Alabama every week. That is certainly true for this division. The talent in Sun Belt East is clearly superior to any team that BYU or the Air Force will compete against, so unfortunately, I think they will devour themselves because of a battle between the people. giant that leaves both teams exhausted for the next game, making sure there isn’t a single dominant team there.

So who will win the Sun Belt East National Championship, AKA? My guess is Appalachian State. They have shown that they can win a defensive struggle like they did 17-14 against Texas A&M and that they can pull in tons of points when needed in a tight 64-62 loss against Texas A&M. North Carolina.
