Summary of EICMA 2022: Showed new ICE and electric bicycles and scooters



From Honda’s electric scooters to MV Agusta’s adventure bikes, EICMA 2022 has covered all of the motorcycle base and then some.

The Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori (EICMA) trade show is a showcase where manufacturers roll out big guns and showcase new and updated models. However, this year there are some notable absences such as BMW Motorrad, Harley-Davidson and the Pierer Mobility group (which includes KTM, Husqvarna and Gas Gas). However, there are some notable developments, especially in the electrical sector.

New EICMA 2022 electric bicycles and scooters: details

Electric mobility is the future and quite a few new electric two-wheelers were introduced, in both concept and production form, at the famous trade show.

Let’s start with Honda EM1 e electric vehicles, marking the Japanese giant’s first foray into the electric vehicle space. The EM1 e has a removable battery, like the recently released battery Vida V1 e-scooter by Hero, and Honda claims it will have a range of “over 40km”. It remains to be seen whether it will make it to India.

Kawasaki introduced two electric bicycles, in Ninja and Z body styles, will be available for purchase from next year. Both electric Kawasakis will have the same removable battery pack, with a capacity of up to 3.0kWh, and will go on sale sometime next year in international markets. Along with these bikes, a hybrid prototype has also been revealed, although no details have been shared yet. It is expected to be on display floors in 2024.

CFMoto is another manufacturer that has made a big splash in the electric two-wheeler segment, launching not just one motorcycle but an entire sub-brand. The CFMoto Papio Nova is a small electric scooter model that borrows many styling cues from the Honda Grom, while the Zeeho sub-brand has been specifically established for future retail e-scooters.

Piaggio revealed the 1 Active electric scooter that promises to deliver more performance than the standard 1 e-scooter, thanks to a more powerful 3kW motor. Aprilia introduced The concept of Electrica and it has more than a motard hint of it, although no technical details are available.

Which brings us to our homegrown company, Ola Electric. Ola introduced S1 e-scooter, gave people abroad a taste of what’s in the store, let’s just say it’s going to start outstanding in a short time.

New ICE bikes and scooters EICMA 2022: details

While battery-powered vehicles are the future, ICE bikes and scooters aren’t going away anytime soon, and for good reason. EICMA 2022 has provided us with a range of drip motorcycles, some of which will be arriving soon.

Without a doubt, the biggest motorcycle revealed (at least as far as India is concerned) is Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650. The brand’s flagship cruiser carries some of the first RE details like USD forks and LED headlights. The thing is not the first though is countless accessories available for Super meteor 650.

Honda has removed the cap from XL750 Transalp, which is basically the sibling of the Honda Africa Twin. This bike shares a lot of its components with the CB750 Hornet. Honda also removed the skin of the CL500 scrambler, its fifth motorcycle on the 500cc platform, and introduced a more touring version of its cruiser, the CMX 1100T Rebel; you can read more about them here.

All-new Suzuki launches V-Strom 800 DEis the intermediate point between its V-Strom 650 XT and the flagship product line V-Strom 1050 DE. This adventure bike also shares its engine, main frame, and most of its electronics with this bike Suzuki GSX-8S bare bike.

One name that has certainly made a name for itself in the adventure bike segment is MV Agusta, which has taken the cover off not one but two adventure bikes, Lucky Explorer 5.5 and 9.5. The smaller version 5.5 was developed in conjunction with QJMotor while the larger version 9.5 is a completely in-house design.

Indian Motorcycle has added a new variant to the FTR line for 2023, FTR Sportreplacement for the FTR S.

Yamaha has also significantly updated Tracer motorcycle series, with the Tracer 7 receiving a new 5.0 inch TFT panel and updated drip switches from the new MT-07. However, the point worth mentioning here is the adoption of a radar-assisted cruise control system for the Tracer 9 GT+. This makes it the smallest and most affordable motorcycle in the world with this system. For 2023, Yamaha has also equipped the Nickel tricycle with a larger 889cc three-cylinder engine from the updated MT-09.

The Piaggio Group has new entrants from all its subsidiaries. Aprilia introduced the RS 660 Extrema, a lighter and more distinctive version of the midsize sportbike RS 660. Moto Guzzi has completed its first liquid-cooled machine, the V100 Mandello, and announced the sessions. special edition of V7 and V9 motorcycles.
