Subjectivism won’t run in 2022 as he keeps coming back from injury | Racingfotos.com
Group 1 winner Subjectivist (GB) (Teophilo {Ire}) who was aiming defend his title during the G1 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot in June, will remain on the bench for 2022, but could still return in 2023, according to co-coach Charlie Johnston. The news was first reported by Car racing.
Johnston said: “We feel that to be ready in time for Ascot he will have to go back to work and because it’s really only been eight months since the injury resumed – we feel it’s not long enough. ,” said Johnston. “We have made the difficult decision to stand this year off. He’s fine on his own, but we want to give the injury the best chance to practice endurance when he returns to full work. The longer he’s been, the more we stand a chance, so we have to take that into consideration.
“It’s been tough leaving your best horse on the sidelines for the season and we just hope we can make up for lost time in 2023.”
A winner of the G1 Prix Royal-Oak upon signing in 2020, the bay won the G2 Dubai Gold Cup on last year’s Dubai World Cup night with 5 3/4 lengths before dominating 5 lengths in the Cup gold on June 17 . Runner Dr. Jim Walker has maintained a his right front leg injury in July 2021, and has been dormant since.
Johnston added: “We will probably head to Saudi Arabia by this time next year and lead to Dubai and Ascot. “He’s been swimming and walking in the water for six months now and he’ll continue his current regimen for the next few months before taking a summer break.”
