Lot 378, son of Gimmethegreenlight (Aus) | BSA
Gimmethegreenlight’s son of the gulf (Aus) (lot 378) yield the highest R2 million sessions (£100,745/€120,106/$126,676) for the second day of trading at the Bloodstock South Africa National Yearling Sale ending on Friday. Greg Bortz captured the half-brother of class 3 winners Ghaalla (SAf) (Var) and Due Diligence (SAf) (Silvano {Ger}) from Varsfontein Stud, who has since been named Stable (SAf). South African Triple Crown winner Malmoos (SAf) (Captain Al {SAf}) competed under the second dam.
The second batch is a child of the Fire Away out of Equus Champion Broodmare of the Year Halfway To Heaven (SAf) (Jet Master {SAf}) (lot 407). A member of the Wilgerbosdrift consignment, Hopes and Dreams (SAf) brought in a bid of R1.6 million from Form Bloodstock. The Dark Bay has three half-brothers who won the top level in South Africa-Rainbow Equus Horse of the Year (SAf) (Ideal World), 3-year-old Equus Champion Colt Hawwaam ( SAf) (Silvano {Ger }) and Golden Ducat (SAf) (The Philanthropist).
Lot 274, daughter of Gimmethegreenlight (Aus), was the fattest of the day, and she caught the eye of Lammerskraal Stud for even a million R1. Part of the Klawervlei Stud draft, the October 1 pony is half-sister to Sovereign Secret (SAf) winner (Dynasty {Saf}), with the duo being the product of 2-year-old Equus Champion Filly All Is Secret (SAf) (Captain Al {SAf}).
After closing the two-day stall, the 21 horses made seven figures, with stats up across all categories compared to 2021. Total sales were Rs 136,355,000 (£6,868,564 / €8,188,574 / $8,636,378) for the 381 sold from 451 on offer (84%), while the average was R357,887 (£18,028 / €21,490/$22,667) (+29%) and the average was R250,000 (£250,000) 12,593/€15,010/$15,834) (+25%).
