Hallway Feeds Technical Services team member Steve Caddel has announced his retirement after 30 years with the company. Caddel, a native of Uvalde, Texas, began working for Hallway Feeds in sales and technical services in April 1991. During his time at Hallway Feeds, Caddel served the Thoroughbred community, balancing between science with practical equine knowledge to advise clients on feed options.
“I was out on the farm and saw the horses,” Caddel said. “When we try something new, I can see if it works. That allows me to put useful information back [Hallway Feeds]. It’s not anything planned, it’s just the way it developed. “
Caddel is part of a number of Hallway Feeds initiatives, including incorporating body condition score data into growth management, a growth study with Kentucky Equine Research that resulted from data collection data on the weight and height of thousands of horses fed, and the advent of using information gathered from radiographs to identify common problems.
Lee Hall, vice president of Hallway Feeds, said: “Having weighed, measured, and conditionally scored more Purebred points than any other individual worldwide, Steve has led Hallway Feeds in collecting. The largest growth dataset for this breed in the world,” said Lee Hall, vice president of Hallway Feeds.
Caddell will conclude his tenure with Hallway following an upcoming partnership between the company and KER’s Dr. The panel will hinge on the results of multi-year growth data versus health records, sales results, and performance records.
