Stephen Espinoza Feeling “blinded” by Crawford withdrawing from negotiations

Via Sam Volz: Showtime’s Stephen Espinoza says he’s completely “with curtains” by Terence Crawford pulled the rug out of his negotiations with Errol Spence Jr to sign the fight against David Avanesyan on December 10.

Espinoza said that what was really surprising to him was that he felt that they were “In progress” during negotiations for a fight between Spence-Crawford when he received news of Terence signing to fight Avanesyan on the BLK Prime pay-per-view.

According to Espinoza, there is no backup plan for the IBF/WBA/WBC weight champion Spence (28-0.22 KOs) as they focus solely on the Crawford match (38-0.29 KOs).

Interestingly, Espinoza says he still wants to continue negotiations with Crawford, 35, after he ends his fight against Avanesyan. However, we don’t know if Spence feels the same way.

The worry here is that if Crawford pulls out of the negotiation once without warning, he will do it again and again, making Spence seem gullible.

Doing it with you once should be enough, as Crawford should at least let Spence and his supporters know that he’s planning on doing another fight.

If there is a next negotiation with Crawford, Spence and his team need to have a backup plan of their own, and they also need to put a limit on the number of days they are willing to negotiate.

Espinoza said Keith Thurman, Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, and Eimantas Stanionis are options for Spence’s next fight if he remains at 147.

The only reason why Spence would stay 147 years old is if he still plans to fight Crawford.

“I would say it was a surprise. It was completely. It’s fair to say that our side feels obscured by the whole thingShowtime’s Stephen Espinoza told Fighthype on Terence Crawford’s withdrawal from negotiations with Errol Spence Jr against David Avanesyan on December 10.

“I know it took a lot of time, and it took a lot of time. But I think we’re making progress, and I certainly don’t expect the rug to be pulled away from us.

“In fact, there are a lot of interesting battles for Spence. One thing we know about Errol, and he’s said it over and over, and he backs it up. He doesn’t fight.

“So whatever he does, and it’s still an open question, it’s going to be a climactic fight. It will be a big fight. Maybe it’s 47; maybe 54. But the reality is, The reason I don’t have specific information for you is because I don’t have a backup plan.

“There’s no reason Errol would be interested in having a ‘What if’ conversation about what would happen if this happened. It’s not on his radar.

“There are definitely interesting wars out there. You have Keith Thurman; you have Boots Ennis, Stanionis and others. No interest in talking about anything other than Crawford. So we wanted to regroup and bring him [Spence] in there.

“He doesn’t want to be stagnant any longer. I think he’s going to move and consider, I still hope, we can get the fighting Crawford back together,” Espinoza said.
