Steam’s winter sale is on with thousands of discounts

Have you ever thought that the real joy of PC gaming lies in buying games, installing them, and then playing them for an hour? If so, then good news! The Steam Winter Sale has begun, offering discounts on thousands of games you can add to your backlog.
The sale runs from today until January 5 at 10am PT/1pm ET/6pm GMT. at the Steam store.
A glance at Sony’s cinematic Steam: God Of War home page is 40% off, so is Square Enix’s tactical RPG Triangle Strategy, while modern indie greats like Unpacking and Noita are discounted Prices are 30% and 50% respectively. Even the already cheap Vampire Survivors get a 20% discount, down to £3.19.
To endorse just one deal, I’d buy the Marvel movie Guardians Of The Galaxy 65% off to £17.49. It came out last year, surprise everyone by really goodbut still not for sale. It has good family vibes and would be a nice game to cozy up to during the holidays.
Not that I finished Guardians Of The Galaxy. Usually at this time of year, I lament the amount of games I’ve played in a significant number of hours over the past 12 months. No more! My New Year’s resolution, if I have one, isn’t to settle my backlog or end up plowing 60 hours into whatever blockbuster I intend to finish. It’s accepting that the game is something I’m passionate about. I’m going to play a lot of games in 2023 and I’ll play most of them once and never again and that’s okay. No more “backlog”.
The Epic Games Store is also having a winter sale, during which they’re giving away 15 days of free gameplay. Today’s free gift is classic Fallout game trilogy.
