Starbucks is using pen and paper to track payments after a supplier was hacked

Blue Yonder Group Inc., one Panasonic subsidiary providing supply chain management software, speak its systems were disrupted by a “ransomware incident” Nov. 21. A company spokesperson said Starbucks was one of its customers and used Blue Yonder software to schedule shifts and track retail employee work hours in North America.

Starbucks stores are using manual methods such as pen and paper to schedule employees, the spokesperson said, adding that the incident did not affect customer service or opening hours the store’s door.

In a statement Monday, Blue Yonder said it had notified the customers involved about the incident and “will continue to communicate as appropriate.”

“Blue Yonder experienced a disruption to its managed services hosting environment, which was determined to be due to a ransomware incident,” said Marina Renneke, a company spokesperson. “Since learning of the incident, the Blue Yonder team has worked diligently alongside external cybersecurity firms to make progress on their recovery process. We have implemented a number of defensive and forensic protocols.”

The attack is previously reported of CNN, said several UK grocery chains have taken steps to resolve the incident.

Represents a UK grocery chain Morrisons told Bloomberg News on Monday that the Blue Yonder breach affected warehouse management systems but added that stores are now “fully operational” on backup systems. Sainsbury’s confirmed it was using Blue Yonder but said it had not experienced disruption because it had a backup solution. An Asda spokesperson said the company used Blue Yonder but was not affected.

Arizona-based Blue Yonder’s customers include manufacturing, grocery, third-party logistics, automotive and restaurant companies, according to Scottsdale’s website.
