Spotify tip for those who like to listen to entire albums

I wish there were more options here. For example, it would be great if the end of an album could lead to the start of a similar album, or if I could turn it off for albums and on for playlists. However, it’s good to have a choice and I choose to turn this off.

Listen to multiple albums by the same artist in succession

Sometimes I like to queue up albums by the same artist. There’s no simple way to do this in Spotify but it’s not impossible. Go to any artist’s profile page, then scroll down CD part. You will see one Show all link at top right.

Click here and you’ll see all the albums in order. Click Play at the top and Spotify will play through every track in each album, from most recent to oldest. You can filter out singles and EPs if you want; Just click the arrow following the word All in the upper right corner and select Album.

Again, this isn’t perfect. I prefer to listen to an artist’s catalog in chronological order rather than starting with the most recent album and working my way through. The only way to get that is to create playlists or search for playlists created by others.

Find a playlist that isn’t for you

You might think that everyone’s playlist is the same, but that’s not true. Many playlists are automatically built by Spotify using your playback history, which, if you’re an album listener, means the playlist contains a ton of tracks from whatever you’ve got in the loop. spin regularly at this time. This can make all playlists look the same, but there’s a tip to avoid this rut: Look for playlists that don’t have a “For” marker at the top. These are public playlists curated by actual human Spotify users, not something influenced by your personal listening habits. I find this algorithmic method of avoiding For You playlists helps me discover new music instead of just re-listening to familiar tracks.

Search Albums without using the mouse

Finding an album in Spotify with just your mouse can take many clicks. Everything will be a lot faster if you use keyboard shortcuts Control + K on PC or Command + K on Mac. This will bring up a search bar. Just enter what you want to hear and use the up and down arrow keys to browse to the results.

From here you can hit Enter to open the album, artist, or playlist page. You can also hit Shift-Enter to immediately start playing the current selection. It’s the fastest way to find and play something, including albums.
