Spotify is selling tickets directly to fans in the latest test


Spotify has quietly launched a new website where fans can buy ticket to their favorite artist’s concert directly from the streaming platform. No fanfare around Spotify Tickets’ launch, because it’s completely an experimental product at the moment, and it’s only selling tickets in advance to certain artists’ upcoming events. The portal’s early artists include Limbeck, Annie DiRusso, Dirty Honey, Crows, TOKiMONSTA, Four Year Strong, and Osees. Spotify Tickets official support page says the company sells tickets on behalf of the event’s partners, such as venues, event promoters, fan clubs, and artists themselves. That means those partners set fares, but Spotify will charge a booking fee, which Spotify promises to clearly notify buyers before they hit the buy button.

The service could become an important source of revenue from artists looking to sell their own tickets. It can also help ensure that tickets are purchased by real fans and not by ticket sellers. The service’s support page states that buyers may not “resell, assign or transfer” tickets except in select states. And since buyers will need to present a government-issued ID to enter the event, they will have to transfer ticket ownership if they decide to sell tickets. The process is quite involved and requires the seller to contact Spotify to change the name associated with the ticket.
