Sony has delayed Spider-Man: Crossing the UniverseThe highly anticipated sequel of 2018 Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Versefrom October 7 to June 2, 2023.
This marks a nearly eight-month delay for the animated sequel set to star Shameik Moore and Hailey Steinfeld as Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy, as reported by Limit line. When Across The Spider-Verse was previously revealed, it is said to be Part I, with Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Part II slated to release after it. More specifically, it is dated March 29, 2024.
As to why this delay is happening, it’s still unclear. Sony did not state why Throughout Part I of Spider-Verse has been postponed. However, as we are in the midst of a pandemic, it is possible that COVID-19 related delays have caused delays in the film industry, the games industry and beyond. Or perhaps, more simply, the team needed more time.
Into The Spider-Verse earned about $375 million worldwide at the box office and considering the franchise is even more popular than it was at release, there’s a good chance Across The Spider-Verse easily overshadow that. However, only time will tell.
Deadline The report also states that another Sony animated film, Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile increased from November 18 to October 7, taking Across The Spider-Verse’s original release date. Elsewhere in Sony’s somewhat disjointed Spider-Man-related universe, Madame Webthere will be stars Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney and Fifty Shades of Grey’s Dakota Johnson, received a release date of July 7, 2023.
