New Delhi:

Aviation regulator DGCA says SpiceJet can now deploy its entire fleet if it wants to, nearly three months after the regulator ordered the airline to operate only 50 per cent of flights after a limited list of flights. long list of safety incidents in a short period of time.

The ANI news agency quoted the General Department of Civil Aviation or DGCA as saying that the airline could operate at full capacity from October 30.

Most recently on 12 October when the 50% flight limit was still in effect, a SpiceJet plane made an emergency landing in Hyderabad after detecting smoke in the cabin and cockpit.

On top of that, SpiceJet has faced operational and financial difficulties, leading to increased scrutiny by the aviation regulator.

The airline owned by businessman Ajay Singh operates the only daily flights to Sikkim. Today, the airline announced it will stop flights on this route from October 30 due to “operational limitations”.

In July, an unusually high number of incidents involving SpiceJet aircraft prompted the aviation regulator to seek an explanation from the airline.

The DGCA has pointed to major gaps in the way the airline operates, from operating flights with “degrading safety margins”, issues pointing to “poor internal safety oversight” to suppliers’ failure to pay on time, resulting in a shortage of spare parts for the SpiceJet fleet.

Mr Singh has told NDTV the airline remains “100 per cent safe”.
