Spendarella meets D’Amato Irishmen in Del Mar Oaks

Spendarella back after second run in Coronation Stock (G1) at Royal Ascot, only to encounter a fleet of Irish tugs on 20 August Del Mar Oaks (G1T). Four of the five Oaks field fillings, originally from Ireland, are now in the cage of California-based coach Phil D’Amato.

The field defeated in the Coronation includes the winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies 2021 (G1T) Pizza Bianca .

Tyler Gaffalione, who won Appalachian Shares April 9 presented by the Japan Racing Association (G2T) in Keeneland with Spendarella, is coming. Del Mar to ride the dark horse in 1 1/8 miles of Oaks. They drew pylon 11 in the school of 14 horses.

Lady Tzu ran second best in Summertime Oaks (G2T) in Santa Anita and fourth in San Clemente, and Tezzaray had a winning stake at Del Mar, in Jimmy Durante Stakes (G3T) last fall.

Txope and Lady Clementine are recently imported items. Txope is a group 2 winner in Germany, who will start his first US competition with coach John Sadler. George Papaprodromou, also Lucky Girl’s coach, conditions Lady Clementine, who broke her maiden appearance in her first U.S. appearance, July 30 in Del Mar.

Gracelund Grey is also winning at Del Mar, a claim/option claim on July 24. She won two shares last year at Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada, equal to the total length of 37 1/4.
