S&P futures slide as stocks struggle to end year with weekly win
Stock index futures pointed to a lower open on Friday for the final trading day of 2022 after some strong buying in the penultimate session.
Trading volume will be light before the three-day holiday.
S&P future (SPX) -0.4%Nasdaq 100 futures (NDX:IND) -0.4% and Dow futures (INDIA) -0.3% was down.
But the major averages have a chance to rise in a week after Thursday’s rally. S&P Index (SP500) rose 0.1% on Friday, with the Nasdaq Composite (COMP.IND) fell 0.2% and the Dow (DJI) increased by 0.1%.
For the year, the S&P is down 19.8%, just outside of a technical bear market. The Nasdaq fell 33.8% and the Dow fell 9.2%.
The rate is slightly higher. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note (US10Y) rose 2 basis points to 3.85%. 2 year yield (US2Y) increased by 3 basis points to 4.40%.
On the economic calendar, Chicago’s December PMI comes shortly after the start of trading. Economists expect the manufacturing index to rise slightly to 40.
