South Sudan: ‘Urgent collective efforts’ needed in most dangerous humanitarian situation |

“It takes a village to raise a child. In the same way, multiple partners are needed to support those affected by the crisis,” said Sara Beysolow Nyanti.

“We urgently need collective efforts to help vulnerable people in South Sudan.”

Praise the humanitarians

The Humanitarian Coordinator expresses gratitude to relief workers, communities, local authorities and first responders who have assisted in saving thousands of lives in dire humanitarian need.

“I commend humanitarians and all those who are risking their lives to alleviate suffering and save lives,” she said.

Dangerous workplace

South Sudan continues to be the most violent scene for aid workers, followed by Afghanistan and Syria.

Since the beginning of the year, five humanitarian workers have died there in the line of duty.

Across the country, aid workers – mostly national humanitarian workers – are affected by the effects of armed violence, bureaucratic obstacles and targeted violence.

From January 1 to July 30, 232 incidents related to restrictions on humanitarian access were reported, the highest of which were in Jonglei and Central Equatoria (state?), accounting for 40% of the total number of incidents. reported.

Security is at stake

People across the country, especially women and girls, face many protected risks, including conflict-related and gender-based sexual violence, armed violence and kidnapping.

These important protection risks are compounded by the rule of law and access to justice-deficit practices.

“Punishment is a perpetuating factor and a cause of conflict and insecurity. It is urgent to bring the perpetrators to justice. We need to strengthen joint action, multi-dimensional dialogue and participation to solve this problem,” Ms. Nyanti said.

“All armed factions must immediately stop targeting civilians, humanitarian personnel and their property. The punishment must end,” she added.

‘tireless’ feedback

As the crisis in South Sudan continues, the humanitarian community and partners work every day to respond, including providing food and supporting livelihoods; health, nutrition and clean water; security services; and emergency education for millions of women, children and men.

“I want to highlight and honor humanitarians, especially women, who work tirelessly on the front lines in the most difficult environments, trying to reach the thousands of people affected by the crisis, ‘ said Mrs. Nyanti.

“On this day, we come together to thank all those who have responded in support of those in need of humanitarian assistance, and we should do so every day.”
