Analysis: a drop of water in the ocean
While we’re always happy to see tech brands doing their best for the environment, this latest effort from Sony is – almost literally – the last straw.
According to statistics from Conservation International and Sony, every $2 helps the charity protect approximately 58,824 square meters of our ocean – the equivalent of an area covered by about 47 Olympic-sized swimming pools, so by our calculations, Sony would need to sell about 6.2 billion pairs of its LinkBuds S to cover the entire ocean surface area of the planet.
Still, it’s a commendable effort – what about the LinkBuds S itself?
In our four-star review, we commend these headphones for their lightweight and comfortable design – we were able to happily wear them for hours on end – and their six-hour battery life ( nine hours with active noise cancellation off) is respectable, if a was shorter than we’d like.
Sound wise, we were also impressed. The sound is enjoyable and noise-free, full of detail and has a well-balanced sound stage, although the Sony buds could be a bit more assertive; if you want to feel inspired by low-pitched melodies then this might not be the best choice for you and audiophiles might prefer a pair instead. But if they’re for you, as well as owning a great pair of headphones, you’ll also be pleased to know that you’re doing your best to save the planet, and especially your own little piece of ocean.
