In an effort to introduce more people to the PlayStation platform and gain a stronger foothold in the game industry, the Japanese game and technology giant Sony launched ‘PlayStation Studios Mobile’. Although the details of this new mobile platform are quite light for now, PlayStation Studios Mobile Sony said in a blog post PlayStation “will operate independently of our console development and focus on innovative, on-the-go experiences based on new and existing PlayStation IPs”.
In addition, Sony also acquired Savage Games StudiosGerman-based video game development company.
Although Savage Games Studios has yet to release any of their games, Michael KatkoffNadjim Adjir and Michael McManus – the co-founders of the company – have had some experience working on mobile game franchises such as Angry bird and Clash of Clans. The video game studio is currently working on an “unannounced new three-A mobile live service action game.”
As for why Savage Games Studios has agreed to work with Sony, Michail Katkoff, CEO and co-founder of Savage Game Studios, said in a press statement: “We believe PlayStation’s leadership team Studios respects our vision for how we can best operate and succeed, and because they are also unafraid of losing opportunities. All of that, plus being able to tap into PlayStation’s great IP portfolio and the fact that we would benefit from the kind of support only they can provide. ”
Sony’s push into mobile gaming can be seen as another measure it has taken in response to Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard and Xbox Cloud Gamingafter it bought back Bungie for $3.6 billion. However Microsoft recently admitted in a court document filed with Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) that PS4 Selling more than double the number of Xbox One consoles, Sony has its sights set on the future, and PlayStation Studios Mobile is one such effort to ensure that.
