Sony is reportedly working on a sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr.
The iconic killer movie franchise I Know What You Did Last Summer may be getting a new movie soon, with the backing of Sony Pictures. the success of last year’s Scream sequel, Report deadlines. Do Revenge director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is expected to join the project, with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are in talks to reprise their roles.
The original 1997 film follows four young friends who are tracked down by a hook-wielding killer, a year after working together to cover up an alleged fatal car accident. The film had a sequel in 1998 with the return of both Hewitt and Prinze, and a third in 2006 with an all-new cast.
At this point it’s unclear what the plot of the upcoming sequel will be, but much like the recent Scream sequel will see legacy actors pass the torch to new characters in an attempt to revive them. franchise without restarting it.
Robinson and screenwriter Leah McKendrick came up with the idea for the film together, although McKendrick will write the screenplay for the film.
Sources say the project is currently in the early stages of development, with Sony declining to comment on the report.
