Sony-Honda names their new brand of electric vehicles Afeela, to start rolling in 2026

Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture between tech giant Sony and major automaker Honda, has announced that its electric vehicle brand will be named Afeela. Yasuhide Mizuno, CEO of the joint venture, made the announcement at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The automotive technology joint venture also showcased the brand’s Vision-S electric concept car at the event. The company added that it will start taking pre-orders for its electric cars in the first half of 2025 and that the first deliveries will be made in 2026 in the North American market.

Mizuno didn’t give much of an explanation behind the new nomenclature. However, he thinks the word refers to the mobile experience the company wants to build and deliver to its customers. The prototype shown at CES 2023 looks very similar to the Vision-S prototype that was shown earlier. It’s hard to say if there’s any difference at all.

Speaking of the Vision-S, the electric concept car previews a sleek and stylish premium sedan. It also has a clear view at the front and sides. The electric sedan has sleek LED headlights at the front, with a thin pane of glass running across the width of the vehicle. The lower front bumper appears sculpted. Moving to the side, the car has unusual looking wheels covered by metal plates. There are no conventional door handles or rearview mirrors. Instead of the traditional rearview mirror, the car is equipped with a sleek camera.

The upper part of the sedan is painted black, while the lower part has a silver theme. This dual theme is similar to the Mercedes-Maybach exterior paint color scheme.

As Sony Honda Mobility has previously hinted, its electric cars will not only serve as zero-emission vehicles, but also as a mobility platform and a testing ground for a variety of technologies. The automotive technology company claims to bring an incomparable entertainment experience to the occupants of its electric cars. The car is said to come with 45 sensors and cameras inside and out.
