Sony creates PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, acquires Savage Game Studios

Sony has acquired Savage Game Studios, which will join the company’s newly formed PlayStation Studios Mobile Division.

The new division will operate independently of PlayStation console development and instead focus on creating “creative, on-the-go experiences based on new and existing PlayStation IPs,” according to a report. Posts on PlayStation Blog. Savage Game Studios was one of the first studios to join this new division, and PlayStation says the Savage team is working on a “new unannounced AAA mobile live-service action game.”

“Today, we announce that we have signed a definitive agreement to acquire Savage Game Studios, an incredibly talented creative team with years of experience creating some of the most popular mobile games. loved by players around the world,” PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst wrote in the blog post. “They were founded a few years ago with the goal of not being afraid to explore bold new ideas. We share their timeless ambition to innovate, coupled with their ongoing drive to expand their audience and bring PlayStation to more people than ever before, making them the perfect product to join PlayStation Studios . ”

Hulst writes that players shouldn’t worry that this new acquisition and mobile division will detract from the company’s efforts to bring the game to the PlayStation community. He said that in the same way that companies entering the PC space have added to the PlayStation community at large, so will their mobile game output.

“Our mobile gaming efforts will be similarly complementary, providing more ways for more people to interact with our content,” Hulst wrote.

Here’s What Savage Game Studios CEO and Co-Founder Michail Katkoff Has To Say About The Acquisition:

“Founded in 2020 and led by me and my co-founders Nadjim Adjir and Michael McManus, Savage Game Studios was born out of our many years of mobile game development experience over a long period of time. a hugely successful global IP number Our guiding vision is a creative space where experimentation and risk taking is not cautiously avoided, but eagerly received. We’ve both worked at major studios and while we respect the advantage of abundant resources, we like to remain small and nimble so we can call our own shots.

“So why then,” you might think to yourself, “are you in PlayStation Studios?” We made this deal because we believe that the management of PlayStation Studios respects our vision for how we can best operate and succeed, and because they are also unafraid to take the opportunity. . All of that, plus the PlayStation’s ability to tap into the great IP portfolio and the fact that we’ll all benefit from the kind of support only they can provide… The harder question to answer would be… is “why not?”

On behalf of everyone at Savage Game Studios, thank you for having us. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been up to! “

PlayStation’s acquisition of Savage Game Studios is the latest in a string of events happening across the industry in 2022. It begins with Take-Two Interactive, the parent company behind the Grand Theft Auto series, announcing in May. 1 that it acquired mobile giant Zynga for almost $13 billion. Then a week later, Microsoft announces that it is acquiring Activision Blizzard, the company behind Overwatch and Call of Duty, at a whopping $68.7 billion. Two weeks later, Sony reveals they are buying Bungie for $3.6 billion. Whereby, Sony acquires Jade Raymond’s new studio, Haven Studios.
